ChalleNges facing a teenager - october 2017

I felt depressed, lonely , I lacked confidence and I was stressed.

I saw Elva for eight sessions and during this time I learnt to think about things differently,  now I have less negative thoughts.I didn't expect the changes that have happened and I think therapy and learning how my emotional and intellectual mind work are the only thing that could truly have helped me. I also learnt to think about things differently and now I have less negative thoughts. I had a very negative daughter, who was not coping with life and she was unhappy.In a very short time my daughter became confident in Elva and the process in general.She became more chatty & humorous again and she began looking to the future, with Elva's encouragement she has learnt to talk more about her feelings and she is back in touch with herself again.

Hello Elva ,
I wanted to give you an update - Ellie is in year 11 now preparing to take her GCSEs. She has gained more confidence now and is doing quite well at school, performing in drama and music productions.

Before we came to see you Ellie struggled with any basic social activity in fear she may have been sick. This was due to a medical condition with which she had from a very young age. After seeing you it made her understand why her body responded the way it did becauseof this and the tools you gave her i.e breathing exercises etc. She has gained more confidence and is enjoying life so much more.

Past relationships

 

Provide an outline of your challenge/s and what made you seek therapy? I came to see Elva because …( your problem/s)

I kept going round in circles with my partner and was feeling unhappy with how I was feeling.  I had come through a lot of upset with past relationships and I could never quite get rid of the baggage.

What helped you to manage your problem/s

Time to talk about how I was feeling and understand how my mind worked, and why it kept pulling in all the negative from the past.  Working in a solution focussed way meant that I could learn how to leave the past in its place, and concentrate on what I wanted for my future happiness instead. Combining therapy with hypnotherapy was a positive combination enabling me to relax and see my future in a much more positive light.  I loved the hypnotherapy CD that Elva gave me to use at home.

What did you learn?

I learned how to focus on my preferred future (a phrase that Elva taught me) and switch my brain from the negative to the positive.  That was a revelation to me and has stuck with me over a year later.

A brief description of how therapy helped you. Please detail any tools that helped you move forward( for example 7/11 breathing, being heard, working in a none judgmental environment )

Being heard in a supportive and non-judgmental environment and with being taught how my mind worked, helped me to see my existing situation and to define what I wanted for my future.  Many months later, my partner and I are stronger and closer together than ever before and if I ever have a stressy moment, then I think about what I want my preferred future to be which switches by brain into the positive.

I loved working with Elva in her beautiful therapy room; it was an escape from the madness of life to concentrate on me and what I wanted out of my relationships and life.  Her words still resonate with me now.

RELATIONSHIP BREAKDOWN

I always knew that I had emotionally centered issues with myself that needed addressing but I could never really establish quite where they came from. I just assumed I was a difficult person .

The breakdown of a ten year relationship with the father of my children brought me to a crisis point, I realised I needed help and luckily for me it was Elva whom I called.

Elva helped me see my problems more clearly. I carried a lot of guilt and  talking with Elva enabled me see that it was disproportionate and that blaming myself entirely for the end of my relationship was unequal and unfair to myself.

Understanding how our brains process emotion was a revelation to me, and Elva provided me with the belief and confidence that I could gain control over myself and harness all my good qualities so old damaging patterns of behaviour would be lost.

Elva helped me turn a desperate situation into real positively and I can't thank her enough for showing me that real change for the better was something I could achieve.

My life's so much better now and I couldn't have done it on my own. - Emma.


STRESS AND ANXIETY

I was struggling to cope with stress at work and I couldn't switch off in the evenings or on my days off.

What really helped me was Elva explaining to me how the brain works and how I process stress and anxiety. This helped me be more positive and to be able to break out of learnt behaviour.

I have more confidence now and I am much happier at work. I have learnt how to switch off when I leave the office, instead of worrying like I did before I began therapy.

Being in therapy has made a big difference to me and I would suggest anyone with similar problems to give it a try - have an open mind.
I am a different person now compared to the person who attended their first session - such an improvement. - Leon.


CONFIDENCE AND EATING DIFFICULTIES

I came to see Elva because I lacked self confidence and I was unable to control my eating. One highlight was that I realised that I was achieving more than I imagined in day and I learnt how to transition from an "unhappy brain" to a "happy brain".

I came to see Elva because I had developed a phobia of public speaking, together we idenified what I wanted to achieve this was to acquire more confidence in giving a presentation to a group.I learnt how to recognise the emotions and their source and that they come from the Amygdala. OVERCOMING A PHOBIA


My son has for 6 or 7 years been suffering with initially psychotic behaviour and depression and he had very clear patterns of mood swings, he either felt extremely low or very high when he felt low he was unable go to work and this affected his ability to work and because he is self employed this has had a significant impact on the valuable client base he built up over the years.

With Elva's radiant personality, positive ideas and interpersonal skills she has helped Tom enormously to be able to recognise and understand his issues.He likes and, importantly trusts you and this has helped him to understand his rationale.Your work has shown Tom that there is light at the endow the tunnel and that by identifying his goals breaking them down into "bite-sized chunks that he can gradually get back to where he wishes to be ,allied with his medication.

We are very grateful for what you have done to help both Tom and ourselves.

FINDING POSITIVE WAYS OF DEALING WITH A FAMILY MEMBER WHO HAS DEPRESSION AND OTHER EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGES


I came to see Elva because I wanted to learn how to deal with issues surrounding anxiety, my lack of motivation and confidence.I learnt how to talk through and explore options that would help me to move forward, this also gave me time to process an option and to look back over our sessions and choose the option that suited me best.I learnt how my brain functions, strategies to help me cope, as well as ways that I could cement in and focus on my goals. I would recommend Elva she has helped me to focus on finding a way forward and this as improved my confidence. - T.Parsons

My son has been struggling for a considerable period of time to address dos depression and psychotic patterns that inflict his wellbeing.Although he is taking medication I consider therapy to being an additional support and it its the key to his future. My son is in therapy and this has helped me enormously , to know that he was talking and opening up to an independent professional. I feel calmer, more relaxed and more appreciative of the life I have and of my family.I know I have the tools to be able to make the necessary changes and make the most of the oportunites that come up in the future .I have more confidence in myself.
